How it opens
In a summer without rain, Min, Siuan and Leane, traveling under false names, stand trial in the Andoran village of Kore Springs for a barn that burned down while they sheltered in it. The lord who judges them, Gareth Bryne, makes them swear to work for him until they repay what he has paid out, and when they ride off with Logain instead, he sets out after them himself. In Rhuidean, out in the Aiel Waste, Rand al'Thor meets with the six clan chiefs whose clans have come to follow him so far, while the Shaido follow Couladin instead. Then Moiraine shows him one of the seals on the Dark One's prison, made of heartstone that nothing should be able to break, and scrapes a flake off its edge with her knife.
