How it opens
Caemlyn bakes in a drought when winter should already have come, and in a courtyard of the Royal Palace, Rand al'Thor trains with a practice sword against five men at once. Andoran nobles who once fawned on Lord Gaebril crowd around to flatter him, and Davram Bashere throws a dagger at his heart, which Rand stops in the air with the Power. Then the false Dragon Mazrim Taim arrives at the Palace gates, submits to Rand under his amnesty for men who can channel, and hands him one of the seals on the Dark One's prison. With the voice of Lews Therin raging in his head, Rand nearly smashes it on the paving stones.
