How it opens
Rand al'Thor is in Fal Dara, a hard-walled fortress town in Shienar, trading blows with the Warder Lan on a tower top with practice swords. Rand complains that Moiraine, the Aes Sedai he traveled here with, will hardly talk to him. Then drums and trumpets bring a column in under the Flame of Tar Valon, and Rand is sure the Amyrlin Seat, who leads the Aes Sedai, has come in person because of him. He decides to slip away on his horse, only to learn that the gates are closed and no horse may leave any stable in the keep.
