How it opens
In Velaris, Cassian is sent at seven in the morning to fetch Nesta from the run-down apartment where she lives alone and spends her nights on wine, cards and strangers. At the new riverside home of Feyre and Rhysand, Feyre, Rhysand and Amren confront Nesta over a bill of five hundred gold marks from a single night. Nesta is told to move into the House of Wind, train with Cassian at Windhaven each morning and work in the library in the afternoons, or else go back to the human lands.
Who you meet early
- Nesta ArcheronNesta Archeron is High Fae now, changed by the Cauldron. She turned down the positions Rhysand offered her, barely sees her sisters, and lived alone in a shabby apartment on the north side of the Sidra until Feyre ordered her out of it.
- CassianCassian is an Illyrian warrior who commands the Night Court's legions. He has exchanged only a handful of words with Nesta since the Winter Solstice, and he is the one chosen to train her.
- Feyre ArcheronFeyre is High Lady of the Night Court and Rhysand's mate, newly moved into the riverside home she designed in Velaris. After giving Nesta time since the war, she has decided to step in.
- RhysandRhysand is High Lord of the Night Court and Feyre's mate. He and Nesta keep their distance from each other, and it was he who drew up the plan to send her to the House of Wind.
- AmrenAmren is the High Lord's Second, High Fae now with only ordinary magic left. She and Nesta were once close, until a fight on a river barge a month ago ended their visits and lessons.
