How it opens

Feyre is back at Tamlin's manor in the Spring Court, hiding the tattoo that marks her as High Lady of the Night Court under a glamour. She plays a girl slowly healing from abuse the household believes Rhysand inflicted on her, while she gathers Hybern's plans to send to him down the mating bond. Tamlin has made Hybern his ally, and the High Priestess Ianthe, who betrayed Feyre's sisters to Hybern, sits down with Feyre to say she is sorry. Then Jurian arrives with Prince Dagdan and Princess Brannagh, the King of Hybern's nephew and niece, who have come to survey the wall for the best place to break it.

Who you meet early

• Feyre ArcheronFeyre is High Lady of the Night Court and Rhysand's mate, playing a part at the Spring Court. Tamlin and his household believe her mating bond was severed and that Rhysand forced her.
• TamlinTamlin, High Lord of the Spring Court, made Hybern his ally in a bargain to get Feyre back. He believes the girl he lost has been returned to him, and he has promised to include her in every meeting.
• IantheIanthe, the High Priestess, betrayed Feyre's sisters to Hybern and is now back at Tamlin's table, asking for understanding. Tamlin still trusts her.
• JurianJurian, the human commander of the old War, was brought back through the Cauldron by the King of Hybern to lead the human queens. He comes to the Spring Court with Hybern's first delegation.
• BrannaghBrannagh, a princess of Hybern and niece of its king, is one of the two commanders who arrive at the Spring Court with Jurian. She travels with her twin brother, Prince Dagdan.
