How it opens
Feyre hunts alone in a snowbound forest because her family has run out of food. She shoots an enormous wolf that she fears could be a faerie, using an ash arrow she has kept unused for three years, and carries home the doe it brought down. She lives with her sisters, Nesta and Elain, and their injured father, and the family has been poor for eight years in a village two days' journey from the border of Prythian, the faerie lands. Feyre is bound by a promise to her dying mother to keep the family together and look after them.
