How it opens

Nomad wakes on a world he has Skipped to and finds himself among prisoners being chained to the ground for an execution. He keeps moving to stay ahead of the Night Brigade, but he is low on Investiture, the power that fuels his abilities, and his Torment now locks his body whenever he tries to fight. When the burning sunrise reaches the field, he escapes by chaining himself to a fleeing hovercycle, which carries him ahead of the dawn to a floating city.

Who you meet early

NomadNomad is a weary traveller who Skips from planet to planet to stay ahead of the Night Brigade, carrying Auxiliary, a shapeshifting metal tool whose voice speaks in his head.

The Sunlit Man stands on its own. It needs no other book.
