Wise One
Wise Ones are the guiding women of the Aiel clans, healers, counselors, and keepers of custom who stand apart from every feud, their word carrying weight no clan chief ignores.
Wise Ones enter The Wheel of Time with the Aiel chapters of The Shadow Rising. Among the Aiel of the Waste, every hold has at least one: women of authority who heal, judge, advise, and keep the customs of ji'e'toh, ranking beside clan chiefs and roofmistresses in honor. Their persons are inviolate. A Wise One stands outside all blood feuds, may not be harmed or hindered, and cannot be taken gai'shain, and harming one ranks among the darkest deeds an Aiel can commit. Their authority is quiet but immense, and a clan chief who dismisses their counsel soon regrets it. Women called to the path must journey to Rhuidean, the forbidden city, before they may claim the title. Some Wise Ones hold gifts beyond wisdom: there are those among them who walk dreams, and some can wield the One Power, facts the Aiel have long kept from outsiders.
