Varilin Zanaire
Varilin Zanaire is a Saldaean Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah and a Sitter in the Hall of the Tower, tall and red-haired, with a strength in the One Power modest even by Aes Sedai standards.
Varilin Zanaire holds one of the chairs in the Hall that gathers at Salidar, and holds it for the Gray. In that room what a sister can weave matters less than what she can carry by argument; a Sitter speaks with her whole Ajah behind her, and Varilin speaks for hers.
Salidar itself is a village turned over to Aes Sedai, its Hall convening in the building called the Little Tower, its days crowded with sisters, Romanda Cassin, Lelaine Akashi, Janya Frende, and Delana Mosalaine among them.
Her part in the Hall is the Sitter's part: to hear what is brought before it, to weigh it for the Gray, and to stand up when she means yes. However the arguing runs, the arithmetic at the end is level. When the question is put and the Sitters declare themselves, Varilin's vote weighs exactly as much as any other's in the room.
