The Shadow's technique for forcing a channeler's allegiance across to the Dark, worked by thirteen Dreadlords channeling through thirteen Myrddraal, and a close-kept Tower secret.
Turning is the name for the technique the Shadow uses to force a person of the Light across to the Dark. Thirteen Dreadlords channel through thirteen Myrddraal, whose own power derives from the True Power, and the combination shifts the allegiance of any channeler against her will or his. That channelers can be Turned at all is a secret the White Tower guards closely, for fear of the mistrust such knowledge could breed among ordinary people. The last Turning known to the Tower took place during the Trolloc Wars.
