The Eye of the World is the first novel of The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, published in 1990. On first publication it consisted of a prologue and fifty-three chapters, with a second prologue added for a re-release. Its prologue is unique in the series in being set during the Age of Legends, roughly three millennia before the events of the story. The book itself opens in and around the village of Emond's Field, in the Two Rivers region of Andor, where most of the main characters live. On the eve of Bel Tine, the festival marking the arrival of spring, Trollocs and Myrddraal attack the village, and three young men leave home by night to spare their families further attacks, traveling with the Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred and her Warder, al'Lan Mandragoran.
