Tam al'Thor
Tam al'Thor was a farmer and former soldier from Emond's Field in Andor, a solid and quietly capable man who raised his son Rand on a modest farm at the edge of the Westwood.
Tam al'Thor makes the trip from his farm to Emond's Field each year with apple brandy and cider for Bel Tine, and he taught his son a meditation technique built on a flame and a void. He sits with the men of the village when serious matters come up, and his calm judgment is one of the things people count on when they do.
On the road to the village before Festival, he and Rand encountered a black-cloaked rider who vanished from the Quarry Road and left them both uneasy. Tam took the sighting seriously without letting it become panic, and the two carried on to Emond's Field, where the barrels were delivered to the Winespring Inn while the Village Council met in urgent discussion. That Festival brought more than the usual arrivals: a gleeman come in the night, two strangers named Moiraine and Lan, and the peddler Padan Fain with news of a war in Ghealdan and a man there who could channel the One Power.
Fain's report of a false Dragon, and of Aes Sedai riding south from Tar Valon to face him, alarmed the village enough that the Council sequestered the peddler in the inn for private questioning. Tam was among the men who sat in on those deliberations, weighing news of a conflict far beyond the Two Rivers while the village prepared its celebrations through a hard winter and an unseasonal frost.
