Shadowspawn

Shadowspawn stalk The Wheel of Time from the first chapters of The Eye of the World. The word covers every creature made to serve the Shadow, most of them bred during the Age of Legends as weapons for the Dark One's armies. Trollocs, huge crossings of man and beast, form the bulk of those armies, and above them stand the Myrddraal, eyeless halfmen who ride at the head of Trolloc fists and put fear into their own soldiers as readily as into the enemy. The Draghkar drift down on wings, and their crooning song draws a listener in before they feed. In the present age such creatures press out of the Great Blight in the far north against the standing guard of the Borderland nations, while people in southern lands, who have not seen a Trolloc in generations, dismiss the lot of them as tales told to frighten children.
