Sevanna
Sevanna was a Wise One of the Jumai sept of the Shaido Aiel, a woman who had married a clan chief at sixteen and never stopped reaching for more.
Sevanna stood as spokeswoman for the Shaido when the clans gathered at Alcair Dal, the meeting place of the Aiel chiefs deep in the Waste. Among the Wise Ones of her people she carried her office with an authority all her own, and when the Shaido needed a voice before thousands of assembled Aiel, that voice was hers.
Her cause at Alcair Dal was Couladin's. She backed his claim to be the Car'a'carn, the chief of chiefs, and she put the weight of the Shaido behind him with full confidence in the outcome. It was of a piece with everything about her: Sevanna did not follow situations, she managed them, and she expected them to bend her way.
Her methods were her own as well. She held control through displays of power and through careful choices about what she told and what she withheld, letting others act on exactly as much truth as suited her purposes. She commanded through sheer force of personality, and those around her generally did as she directed. Ambition sat openly on her; she saw no reason to hide it.
