Sarene Nemdahl

Sarene Nemdahl spent her Accepted years in the White Tower, her hair kept in the distinctive thin braids of a Taraboner. Her beauty was remarkable, and remarked on. Tact came a good deal less easily to her, and her tongue was sharp enough that difficulties seemed likely to follow it.

Duty carried her out of the Tower and south from Tar Valon, over the bridge at Alindaer and on to the refugee camps that lay beyond, a first camp and then a second. In those camps the names of women were being taken down, candidates recorded for a bounty offered to those who could channel. It was slow work, done name by name.

Sarene was at the first camp, and she was there early; whoever came found her already settled to the task, recording names. The braids said Taraboner at a glance, wherever in the camps she happened to be.
