Saldaea

Saldaea belongs to the Borderlands named through the early books of The Wheel of Time, from The Eye of the World onward. It is the westernmost of the four nations that guard the Blightborder and the largest, bigger than Shienar and Arafel together, reaching from the Aryth Ocean to the Plain of Lances beneath a banner of three silver fish on dark blue. Its coast is no blessing; the cliffs called World's End allow no true harbor, so Saldaean wealth moves overland, furs and ice peppers carried south by merchant train from the capital at Maradon. Saldaea's soldiers are light horsemen with few equals, raiders and skirmishers bred to a frontier where Trolloc war comes as regularly as harvest. The nation's women share the temper. Barred from the battlefield by custom, they carry knives and know how to use them, and many ride beside their husbands to the very edge of any campaign.
