Ancient stones, older than the Age of Legends, that move travelers who can read their symbols between distant places and into other worlds where time itself may run differently.
Each Stone is a tall column carved with symbols, and Rand believes that working one means wielding the Power. Selene, who says she woke beside one, claims the worlds they reach are reflections of the real one: some pale and thin, others as solid as home and peopled by the same people, so that a traveler might meet a second self. She adds that Aes Sedai study of such worlds lies behind the growing of the Ways.
