Merise Haindehl
Merise Haindehl is a Taraboner Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah, tall and severe-faced, counted among the strongest wielders of the One Power in the Aes Sedai hierarchy.
Merise Haindehl keeps company with Cadsuane Melaidhrin, in a traveling party of Aes Sedai and Warders that answers to Cadsuane absolutely. Twelve sisters travel with Cadsuane; Merise is one, and Verin Mathwin, Sarene Nemdahl, Corele Hovian, Alanna Mosvani, and Daigian are among the others. Warders ride with them, Jahar, Damer, and Eben among the men, and Sea Folk travel alongside: Harine din Togara, a Wavemistress, with Shalon and Moad.
Far Madding is the party's destination, a city on a lake where the world is arranged against women like Merise. A ter'angreal within its bounds stops all channeling inside the city, much as a stedding would, and beneath the dome of the Hall of the Counsels another marks any attempt at the Power. Weapons are peace-bonded at the checkpoint by city law, and Aleis Barsalla holds the office of First Counsel.
Inside those walls, Merise's strength in the One Power counts for nothing. Cadsuane's word, inside them or out, still counts for everything.
