Masuri Sokawa is an Arafellin Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah, slim and pretty, with brown, merry eyes and a quiet voice that, unlike many of her Ajah, never wastes a word.

When the world first meets her, Masuri is one of nine sisters sent out from Salidar, an embassy dispatched to Caemlyn to seek the support of Rand al'Thor. The delegation is led by Merana Ambrey, and Masuri travels in company with sisters of several Ajahs, among them Seonid Traighan, Rafela Cindal, Kairen Stang, and Demira Eriff. In Caemlyn they take rooms at The Crown of Roses, an inn kept by Mistress Cinchonine, and from there conduct the slow, careful business of a mission that must weigh every step it takes near the Royal Palace.

She is a daughter of Arafel serving an Ajah famed for its scholars, yet she wears the Brown differently than most. Where many of her sisters drift into abstraction, letting talk wander wherever thought leads, Masuri holds to a strict economy. When she speaks, it is because something needs saying, and she says it once. The merriness in her eyes suggests she finds the world interesting rather than amusing, and she takes in a room before offering it a word.

Within the embassy she occupies a quiet place, one voice among nine in a company where rank and precedence are measured with exacting care. Slim and unassuming beside grander sisters, she carries herself with the composed patience of a woman accustomed to listening long and choosing her moment.
