Malkier is the fallen Borderland nation north of Shienar, the land of the Seven Towers and the Golden Crane, lost to the Blight through treachery a generation ago.
Lan comes from Malkier, and Lord Agelmar of Fal Dara tells its fall as a tale known all along the Border. In his account Malkier bore the weight of holding back the Blight, until jealousy in its royal house stripped the Borderforts and Trollocs poured in. King al'Akir and Queen el'Leanna sent their infant son Lan away to Fal Moran with the sword of its kings, then led their people out to die at Herot's Crossing.
