Malkier

Malkier is remembered rather than visited in The Eye of the World. It was the northernmost of the Borderland nations, lying beyond what is now the Blightborder north of Shienar, closer to Shayol Ghul than any other land, a country of water where the Seven Towers of its capital stood above the Thousand Lakes. Its sign was the Golden Crane, and its men bound their hair with the hadori, a braided leather cord, a custom its survivors keep still. For nearly a thousand years Malkier held the Shadow's frontier, until treachery from within opened its marches, and in 955 NE the Blight swallowed the land whole. The Seven Towers are broken, and Shienar now stands as the world's shield where Malkier stood. The Malkieri and their children live scattered through the Borderlands, carrying the memory of the Golden Crane with a grief that has not dulled.
