Ji'e'toh

Ji'e'toh is the code the Aiel live inside. Ji is honor and toh is obligation, and every dealing between Aiel is weighed on the two. The greatest honor comes from touching an armed enemy without harming him, which leaves that enemy carrying a debt he must meet, most often by serving the one who spared him for a year and a day as gai'shain, wearing white and lifting no weapon. Killing earns the least honor of anything, since anyone at all can kill and it takes skill to disarm. Debt can also be met by accepting punishment or shameful labor, and the heavier the debt, the harsher the payment must be. Wetlanders follow almost none of it, which is most of why they baffle the Aiel.
