Ishamael, once the philosopher Elan Morin Tedronai and called the Betrayer of Hope, is counted first among the thirteen Forsaken, the Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends who went over to the Shadow.
Clad in black, he walks through a palace shaken to ruin and Heals the madness out of Lews Therin, the Dragon, only so that he must face whose hand slew his wife and children. He boasts that the two of them have fought a thousand battles as the Wheel turns. In Emond's Field his is one of the names mothers use to frighten their children.
