Horn of Valere

The Horn of Valere belongs to the oldest legends told in The Eye of the World. The stories agree on its power: when the Horn is sounded, the great heroes of every age answer from beyond the grave and ride again for the Light. Prophecy binds it to Tarmon Gai'don, holding that the Horn must be found before the Last Battle is fought. The thing itself is described as plain, a curled horn of gold marked only by a line of silver script in the Old Tongue around the bell, reading that the grave is no bar to its call. It has been lost since the Trolloc Wars, and searching for it is a tradition in its own right. Illian has called the Great Hunt of the Horn again and again across the centuries, swearing in Hunters from every land in the Square of Tammaz and sending them out into the world, and every Hunt so far has come back with stories instead of the Horn.
