Forsaken

The Forsaken are named from the beginning of The Wheel of Time, invoked in The Eye of the World in a catechism every child learns, that the Dark One and all the Forsaken lie bound in Shayol Ghul until the end of time. Legend holds them to be thirteen Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends, among the mightiest channelers of an age of wonders, who forsook the Light and dedicated themselves to the Dark One during the War of Power. When the Bore was sealed at that war's end, the thirteen were trapped at Shayol Ghul along with their master. Three thousand years have not softened their memory. Mothers still frighten children with their names, and men still curse by Ishamael, called Betrayer of Hope, and by Lanfear, the only one among them said to have chosen her own name. To most people they are hearth tales. To Aes Sedai they are history.
