Escaralde Hamdey
Escaralde Hamdey is a Brown Ajah Aes Sedai from Far Madding, a short but formidable woman whose sheer force of will more than makes up for what she lacks in stature.
Escaralde Hamdey holds a Sitter's chair in the Hall of the Tower, and the Hall she sits in convenes nowhere near Tar Valon. It meets under canvas, in a pavilion raised in a camp of Aes Sedai in the field, with Egwene al'Vere seated as Amyrlin at its head. Around the pavilion spreads the camp itself, tents pitched in the cold of a hard winter, Egwene's own tent among them.
It is a divided time for the Tower's sisters. The Hall Escaralde attends stands opposed to Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, far off in Tar Valon, and gathers instead around an Amyrlin of its own. Salidar lies behind that camp on its long road, and Murandy and Andor now figure in its councils.
Her fellow Sitters are many: Romanda, Lelaine Akashi, Delana, Janya, Kwamesa, Takima, Berana, Salita, Saroiya, Magla, Moria, Lyrelle, Samalin, Malind, Faiselle, and Aledrin among them. Business is settled in formal session and weighed by consensus, and when the Hall divides on a question, Escaralde's voice counts in the tally the same as any Sitter's. For a woman of Far Madding, a canvas Hall in a winter camp is a long way from home, and she keeps her chair in it all the same.
