Daughter of the Nine Moons

Daughter of the Nine Moons is a title of the Seanchan empire, the vast realm across the Aryth Ocean, and it belongs to the designated heir to the Crystal Throne, the seat of the Seanchan Empress. The Nine Moons are the sigil of the imperial court, and the heir carries them in her very name. Custom surrounds the title with ceremony. The heir is named by the Empress rather than by simple order of birth, and on an Empress's death, once the mourning period ends, the Daughter of the Nine Moons must declare herself Empress aloud to be recognized and crowned in the imperial capital. Beyond such court forms, little is common knowledge on this side of the ocean, for the Seanchan guard the affairs of the imperial family closely.
