Darkfriend

Darkfriends are ordinary men and women, not Shadowspawn, who give secret allegiance to the Dark One, most drawn by promises of immortality or power when the Shadow prevails. Their fellowship is old. In the Age of Legends they called themselves Friends of the Dark and declared themselves openly; in the present age they hide, meeting masked in cellars and trading signs, and no land or station is free of them. A Darkfriend may be a beggar, a merchant, a lord, or a neighbor of thirty years, and among themselves worldly rank counts for nothing beside standing in the Shadow's service. Most people treat tales of Darkfriends the way they treat tales of the Forsaken, as stories for winter nights, and that comfortable doubt suits the Darkfriends very well.
