Damer Flinn
Damer Flinn was an Asha'man of the Black Tower, an old Andoran who had spent forty years in the Queen's Guards before a Murandian lance ended his soldiering days.
Damer Flinn came to channeling late and by an unlikely door. He was one of the men gathered at a farm near Caemlyn, brought together because each of them might have the ability to learn, and he stood in that farmyard an old man among students.
The ability was there. Under Mazrim Taim's testing, Damer was the first of the gathered men found able to learn to channel, though the test used him roughly, leaving him weak and close to vomiting before it was done. The schooling that followed was not gentle either; Taim's charge was to teach the men as quickly as possible, with the weight falling on weaves that could serve as weapons.
The school itself was plain: a farmhouse, a barn, a clearing in the woods. His fellow students included Eben Hopwil, Fedwin Morr, and Jur Grady, who had his wife Sora with him at the farm. From those beginnings Damer Flinn came to the name Asha'man, an old soldier set to a strange new trade.
