Bridal wreath

A bridal wreath is how an Aiel woman proposes. She gathers flowers, and the flowers say what she is: segade blossoms for a prickly nature she has no intention of softening, sweetroot for a sweet one, morning drop for a woman who means to be biddable. She lays the wreath down in front of the man. If he picks it up he has accepted her, and if he steps on it he has not, which can end in violence or in a feud between families. Where the man is already married, she usually goes to his first-wife before she goes to him. The custom is old enough to predate the treaty of Rhuidean.
