Berowin Doraisin was a Cairhienin member of the Kin in Ebou Dar, a stout woman wearing the red belt of an Ebou Dari Wise Woman, still carrying the quiet shame of having failed her test for Aes Sedai at the White Tower.

Berowin Doraisin belonged to the Kin, called by some the Circle, the quiet and careful society that gathered up the channeling women of Ebou Dar: wilders, and women the White Tower had put out. Reanne Corly led them, and secrecy was their first law, for discovery would have brought the Tower and the Whitecloaks down on them all. Among such women the years moved gently, since those who channeled aged more slowly than other folk.

Berowin helped keep the Circle's discipline, and she was fitted for the work; her strength in shielding ran far beyond the ordinary. Rules held the Kin together, and Berowin held people to the rules.

She was Cairhienin born, far from her own country in the streets of Ebou Dar. For all the firmness of her office, there was give in her. Where Garenia held to the hard line without bending, Berowin left room for mercy.
