Bayle Domon

Bayle Domon was master of the Spray, a trading vessel working the Arinelle River, moving cargo downriver toward towns like Whitebridge and, when the trade allowed, back to his home port of Illian. He wintered most recently in Saldaea, in the far north, where word of Trolloc raids had been growing more frequent; a captain who ranged that far heard a great deal, and Domon forgot little of it. His crew answered to him and no one else, Floran Gelb among the hands.

He ran his business pragmatically. Passage aboard the Spray cost silver, and Domon drove a hard bargain before anyone set foot on his deck. He was resourceful in a trade that rewarded resourcefulness, willing to bend a rule where a smuggler's profit lay, and openly skeptical of other men's plans when they did not square with his own judgment.

For all the haggling, he held a firm set of convictions. There were practices Domon would not stomach whatever they paid, and when he felt himself indebted to a man, he settled the account fairly. Coin mattered to him, but he was not for sale.
