Arafel
Arafel is one of the four Borderland nations, lying between Kandor and Shienar below the Blight, its people known for the silver bells they braid into their hair and the paired swords they carry.
Arafel stands among the Borderland nations of The Wheel of Time, named from the early books beginning with The Eye of the World. It lies on the threshold of the Great Blight between Kandor to the west and Shienar across the River Mora to the east, and its capital is Shol Arbela. Its banner quarters three white roses on red with three red roses on white. Like its neighbors it was born in the War of the Hundred Years, when Artur Hawkwing's northern governors chose federation and the Blightwatch over fighting one another. Arafellin are unmistakable abroad: men and women alike wear their hair in long braids hung with silver bells that chime as they move, and Arafellin swordsmen carry two blades hilted above their shoulders and are willing to use both at once. Behind the flourish stands the same iron custom as the rest of the Borderlands, the unending watch on the north.
