Alise Tenjile
Alise Tenjile was a Taraboner woman of middle years in appearance, quietly in charge of the Kin's farm outside Ebou Dar, her pleasant and unremarkable face giving little away.
Alise Tenjile belonged to the Kin, a fellowship of women in and around Ebou Dar who could channel. Discovery was the standing danger of such a life, and the Kin endured by drawing no attention at all. It had order of its own, with rules, ranks, and a Circle at its heart, and it kept a meeting house in the city where its business was quietly managed.
Her own charge lay outside the city, at the farm the Kin kept as a retreat, a place apart from Ebou Dar's streets. Running it called for steadiness rather than show, and the women there answered to her.
Age, among such women, was a slippery measure. Those who could channel aged slowly, and a face in its middle years might have been earned across a great many more. By that reckoning, no one meeting Alise could say with any confidence how many years she carried.
