Ajah
The Ajahs are the seven societies of the Aes Sedai, each marked by a color and a purpose, from the Red who hunt men that channel to the Brown who serve the gathering of knowledge.
The Ajahs of the White Tower are part of The Wheel of Time from The Eye of the World. Every Aes Sedai save the Amyrlin Seat belongs to one of seven societies named for colors, each with its own purpose, its own head, its own traditions, and in most cases its own network of eyes and ears. The Red Ajah hunts down men who can channel; the Green calls itself the Battle Ajah and holds ready for the Last Battle; the Blue pursues causes and justice; the Brown gives itself to knowledge; the Yellow to Healing; the Gray to mediation and law; the White to logic and philosophy. A sister chooses her Ajah on the day she attains the shawl, and no request is refused. The word itself is older than the Tower. In the Age of Legends an ajah was any informal band joined for a shared purpose, and only with the centuries did the seven take their fixed colors and names.
