The Age of Legends is the age before the Breaking of the World, a time of peace and wonders when Aes Sedai, men and women both, served all humankind, remembered now only in story and fragment.

The Age of Legends stands behind everything in The Wheel of Time, recalled in tales from The Eye of the World onward. It is the name the present age gives to the age before its own, a civilization of wonders now three thousand years gone. In that time channelers were common, and Aes Sedai, then an order of both men and women, took their name from the Old Tongue words for Servants of All. Cities rose that no living builder can match, want and war were unknown for generations, and above all stood the Hall of the Servants, with Lews Therin Telamon, called the Dragon, first among Aes Sedai. The age ended in ruin. A project drilling into what seemed an untapped source of power opened a bore into the Dark One's prison, loosing his touch upon the world, and the War of Power that followed brought on the Breaking of the World and the shattering of everything the age had built.
