Aes Sedai
The Aes Sedai (Old Tongue: Servant of All) are women who can channel the One Power, and have been trained in the White Tower of Tar Valon.
Aes Sedai reach Emond's Field mostly as news and fireside tales. The peddler Padan Fain brings word of a war in Ghealdan, where a man claims to be the Dragon Reborn, and adds that a party of Aes Sedai has already ridden south. Since this false Dragon can wield the Power, Fain says, only Aes Sedai are able to defeat him or to deal with him if he is beaten.
Cenn, a member of the Village Council, holds that Aes Sedai should not even be talked about in a decent village, and the Council meets over the news to decide whether Emond's Field is in danger. For Rand, Aes Sedai belong with wars and false Dragons in the tales told late at night by the fire. He tells his friends that the Dragon may have started the Breaking, but the ones who broke the world were Aes Sedai.
