Academy is the name for schools of scholars and mechanics like the Academy of Cairhien, housed in Lord Barthanes' old palace and echoing the centers of learning of Artur Hawkwing's day.
Rand starts such schools hoping some knowledge survives if he breaks the world anew. In Cairhien, Headmistress Idrien Tarsin runs things with a strong hand and a taste for practical work, and a bounty for books swells the library fast. Elayne takes charge of the Caemlyn school that Rand set up, meaning to make it Andor's own Academy of the Rose and to devote it to her mother, Morgase Trakand.
