Raised in the church as an orphan alongside his twin sister Hannah, he is presented to believers as its Saint, a young man whose gift is healing. He has blond hair, a kind face, and a nature to match: gentle, trusting, and stubbornly devoted to his sister, who spends far more time protecting him than he thinks he deserves. Their standing has collapsed; blamed for a deadly attack inside the Empire, they are fugitives moving through the continent's south, and Jack's whole concern is keeping his gravely ill sister alive. He meets Cale Henituse on that road, and the meeting changes the shape of his flight.
