Sophons
Sophons are the work of Project Sophon on Trisolaris, each a single particle given the mind of a superintelligent computer, able to slip into any closed space and see the organs inside a living body.
Sophons are protons that Trisolaran scientists unfold into a vast two-dimensional sheet, etch with circuits and fold back up, turning each into a tiny thinking machine. Linked by quantum entanglement, they sense one another across any distance, so the two kept at home learn at once what the two sent toward Earth observe. Racing there near light speed, the pair are meant to sabotage Earth's strongest particle accelerators and stage miracles that lead human science astray.
