Professor Zhang is a retired professor in The Three-Body Problem, the next-door neighbor of the nanomaterials researcher Wang Miao and part of the ordinary Beijing world of the early chapters.
When a frantic knock comes at his door with a plea for a film camera, Zhang offers what he has, a plain digital point-and-shoot, and says the few pictures on it can simply be deleted. He teases that a serious photographer should not need to borrow one, then asks whether all is well, since the face before him looks so pale.
