Luo Ji
Luo Ji is a sociology instructor and former astronomy student in The Dark Forest, an unambitious man whose life is upended when powerful institutions take a sudden, unexplained interest in his safety.
Luo Ji is a central character. He is presented as a talented but deliberately unambitious academic: a former astronomy student turned sociology instructor who drifts between subjects, teaches without passion, and arranges his life around comfort and low expectations. In the China of the Cultural Revolution and the early twenty-first century, he is an ordinary man to whom something extraordinary starts happening: powerful institutions abruptly take an intense, unexplained interest in his safety, and he is swept out of his routine into protection he never asked for, for reasons no one explains to him.
