The Chesapeake Maximum Security Correctional Center, which its staff call The Pit, is a United Nations maximum security prison in the Chesapeake Conservancy Area on Earth. Above ground it is a graceful art deco building standing alone in heavy woodland at the edge of a lake, with a wide field of manicured grass behind it dotted with vents that suggest how much more of the place lies below. There is no road and no dock. Everything arrives by air, at a single landing pad on site. Most of the facility is underground, including the wings that hold inmates with body modifications.
