Sol system
The Sol system is the solar system humanity has spread across, from Earth and Mars to the Belt and the moons of the outer planets, where law obliges the nearest ship to answer any distress call.
Some hundred and fifty years earlier, Solomon Epstein's modified fusion drive turns distant mineral wealth into something worth reaching. Tens of millions live on the moons of Saturn and Jupiter, and fifty to a hundred million Belters, depending on who counts, all needing water. Ice haulers like the Canterbury loop from Saturn's rings to the Belt carrying glaciers, and Holden, who served seven years in Earth's navy, never quite adjusts to the long, thin bones of Belters.
