Praxidike Meng is a botanist on Ganymede whose young daughter Mei, who needs daily medicine to live, goes missing from her day care on the day fighting tears through the moon.
Prax has given eight years to Glycine kenon, a soybean so heavily engineered it counts as a new species, until a coming strike forces the evacuation of his dome. Mei's teacher says a woman cleared as her mother came for Mei that morning with a doctor.
