New York City

New York City, also called New York or NYC, is a coastal city in the North American Trade Zone on Earth and the seat of the United Nations government. The UN Secretariat, the Security Council and General Assembly, and UNN Fleet Command all sit there, putting Earth's executive, legislature and naval command in a single city. It took that role when Earth's sovereign countries unified, though the Court of Justice stayed in The Hague, and the Martian Congressional Republic keeps its permanent embassy in the city. Rising seas and worsening storm surges have pushed New York to fortify its coastline with barriers and walls, and a century of population growth has turned it into a megalopolis of tens of millions straining to supply housing, water and sanitation. A large share of its residents live on Basic Assistance.
