The Martian Marine Corps is the infantry arm of Mars's military in The Expanse, present from Leviathan Wakes, wherever the Martian Congressional Republic Navy flies. Marines of the MMC serve aboard MCRN warships and garrison Martian outposts across the Solar System, trained for boarding actions, station fighting, and surface combat in vacuum. Their signature equipment is powered armor, vacuum-rated suits that turn a single marine into something closer to a light vehicle, and because Martians grow up at a third of Earth's gravity, the Corps trains at full g to keep its people a match for anyone raised on Earth. In a series where Mars's small population holds equal standing with a planet of billions, the Corps is a large part of the reason the balance holds.
