The capital and largest city of Mars, a tunnel network cut under the permafrost of the Aurorae Sinus with ten surface domes, the Republic's government buildings and the planet's oldest university.
Londres Nova, New London, is the capital and largest city of Mars, in the northern reach of the Aurorae Sinus, where roughly forty thousand people live and work. Most of it lies underground, a webwork of tunnels cut through the permafrost by generations of colonists and prototerraformers who used the soil itself as insulation and as shielding against radiation, since Mars has no magnetosphere. Many of those tunnels now carry tube lines, and which line a neighborhood sits on says much about its standing. Ten domes press up to the surface, the largest of them agricultural. The government buildings of the Martian Congressional Republic stand downtown in Aterpol, and the university is split between the old lower campus in Breach Candy and the upper campus in Salton.
