Freehold is the name of a world. Humanity begins confined to one Solar System, divided among Earth under the United Nations, an independent and heavily armed Mars, and the Belt, whose stations and haulers supply the inner planets and resent them, with James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante moving through the middle of it all. Freehold is not part of that world. What kind of place answers to the name and who calls it home are matters that define Freehold.
