The Donnager is a Martian battleship, flagship of the MCRN's Jupiter fleet, dispatched to pick up the survivors of the ice hauler Canterbury and aid the Martian inquiry into its destruction.
Orders relayed to the shuttle Knight tell Holden's crew to fly for the Jupiter system, cooperate fully with the Donnager and broadcast to no one else. Alex, who knows the ship, warns that she is no rock hopper but a quarter million tons of trouble, and the crew argue over running for the Belt instead. Holden answers that they will come aboard, asking publicly not to be held prisoner or harmed.
