The corvette is the smallest class of true warship, a category that sits below destroyers, cruisers, and battleships in the naval order: fast, lightly crewed vessels built for escort duty, patrol sweeps, and support of larger ships, carrying a serious sting for their size in torpedoes and point-defense cannons. Both of the great navies field them, Earth's United Nations Navy and the Martian Congressional Republic Navy alike. The class matters for one ship above all: the Rocinante, the Martian-built corvette-class light frigate that carries James Holden and his crew.
